RADIESSE
What is radiesse?
RADIESSE is uniquely formulated with calcium hydroxylapatite (CaHA) microspheres suspended in a gel, plus added lidocaine for your patients comfort1. Treatment activates the body’s own skin rejuvenation power to achieve long-lasting, natural-looking results and a youthful, refreshed appearance.
A semi-permanent dermal filler intended for deep dermal and sub-dermal soft tissue augmentation of the facial area and dorsum of the hands.
What is radiesse made out of?
Radiesse dermal filler contains microspheres of calcium hydroxylapatite (CaHA), a biocompatible substance also found in bones, suspended in a water-based gel carrier. The body absorbs the gel and metabolizes the CaHA over time. In the meantime, these microspheres act as a scaffold that promotes new collagen formation and dermal remodeling.

What happens during a Radiesse treatment? A Radiesse treatment typically lasts about 20 minutes. It begins with a consultation where your provider, ideally a board-certified dermatologist, plastic surgeon, or a skilled nurse injector, will discuss your goals to ensure Radiesse is suitable for you. They will outline the expected number of syringes and the cost. The treatment area is then numbed (optionally with Radiesse Plus, which includes lidocaine) and cleaned to prevent infection. While seated, the filler is injected beneath the skin using a fine needle or cannula, with the amount based on desired volume and treatment areas. Your provider might also massage the filler to optimize the contour and volume.
Will you need downtime? Post-treatment, you can resume most activities immediately but should avoid strenuous exercises, applying pressure to the treated area, and direct sunlight for 2 to 4 days. You might experience some swelling, redness, and bruising, which generally subsides within a week. Using an ice pack can help reduce these effects.
How soon will you see results? Results are visible immediately after the treatment as it adds fullness and smoothens wrinkles and folds, with improvements continuing as your body's natural collagen production increases.
Is Radiesse permanent? Radiesse offers long-lasting but not permanent results, typically enduring 12 to 18 months. To maintain the effects, annual touch-ups are recommended.
What are the risks and potential side effects of Radiesse? While side effects are rare, potential risks include cellulitis from unclean skin, lumps under the skin, and rare allergic reactions. The risk of vascular occlusion is a critical concern, emphasising the importance of being treated by an experienced, well-trained provider. It is advised to avoid Radiesse if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or have a bleeding disorder.
